The Marriage Bureau processes marriage license and officiant applications remotely and in person from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. only. You may apply for the license online; a court staff member contacts you once the application is received, so the page does not promise same day issuance. The full name of the intended officiant must be given when you apply, unless you pick a court civil wedding or self officiate. Only if you self officiate must both parties be present when the license is picked up. A certified copy of the license costs $10. The whole wedding, both spouses and the officiant, has to be physically in the District at the time of the ceremony. The license never expires once issued.
