A valid California marriage license is required before a ceremony can be performed and is a separate fee (see the Clerk-Recorder fee schedule). At least one witness is required for a public license. A $2.00 non-refundable convenience fee per order applies to online debit and credit card transactions. A one-time Deputy Marriage Commissioner deputization, so a friend can officiate, is a separate program.
