The license is valid anywhere in Louisiana for 30 days from date of issuance, with a 24-hour waiting period before the ceremony. Applicants can start the application online before coming to the courthouse. Signing options are both parties before a deputy clerk, one party before a deputy clerk with the other before a notary, or both before a notary. By Louisiana law the Clerk of Court transfers over forty percent of marriage license fees to the Program for Victims of Family Violence. The $50 cash-only Review of Record from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office that appears elsewhere on the clerk's site applies to expungements, not to marriage licenses.
